Abstract
Offers design guidance for achieving a safe and secure environment for licensed premises within the hospitality industry (including public houses, bars, restaurants, clubs and music venues). Covering assessment guidance, site and building layout, external areas, parking areas, windows, perimeter doors, roller shutters, lighting - general, internal and external, monitored security systems, entrances and exits, bar area, internal layout, stores and cellar security, toilets, cash/management office, gaming and vending machines and closed circuit television.

Now known as the National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC). The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) existed until 31 March 2015, as an independent professional body coordinating the development of the police service in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The ACPO formed the Crime Prevention Initiatives to manage projects such as Secured by Design, which was established in 1989 and focussed on providing design guidance and security for new and refurbished homes, commercial premises and car parks.
