Abstract
Presents and assesses sustainable development indicators that measure everyday concerns, including health, housing, jobs, crime, education and environment. Aims to be a useful and accessible reference for experts, to help illustrate the breadth and challenges of sustainable development.

Superseded by Measuring progress - sustainable development indicators 2010 (DEFRA, 2010). Supersedes 2008 edition. To be read with Securing the future - delivering UK sustainable development strategy (Command Paper 6467, 2005), and a series of factsheets for the nine regions (DEFRA, 2009).
