Publication 354 Design of floors for vibration: a new approach (revised edition, February 2009)
Publication Year
2009
Document Status
Current
Abstract
Outlines the theory and sources of vibrations and then considers architectural and structural aspects of floor design. Defines acceptability of vibrations, in part in relation to perception and sensitivity. Describes general assessment for establishing vibration response, establishing criteria by which it is measured, and a simplified assessment for steel floors. The design procedures are valid for steel-framed floors using hot rolled steel sections and lightweight floors using thin cold-formed steel members. The simplified procedure is suited to framing arrangements that are generally regular in plan. This revised edition includes advice relevant to health buildings in response to HTM 08-01.
