Abstract
Comprises a CLG-BRE investigation into installation of sprinklers including the practice of boxing-in. Explores information and guidance for installation practices and looked at the influence of ceiling penetrations on integrity of separating timber floor compartmentation. Highlighted conclusions reveal there were detrimental affects for both concealed sprinklers with vent holes completely sealed and boxed in sprinklers in comparison with sprinklers in open spaces. Further observations included floor/ceiling constructions, ceiling speakers and plasterboard boxes for ceiling speaker hole penetrations.
