Abstract

Details are given for the calculation rules of thermal actions on buildings, bridges and other structures including their structural elements and cladding and other appendages of buildings. It also covers the temperature changes to structural elements.

Document History

Superseded by BS EN 1991-1-5:2025. This document is considered to be a first generation Eurocode and is the applicable standard for building and civil engineering works constructed in the UK. A period now exists to prepare for the transition between first and second generation Eurocodes. First generation Eurocodes will be withdrawn by BSI on 30 March 2028 and will be replaced by second generation Eurocodes. Amendment 15510 is Corrigendum No.1. dated 15 December 2004 - Addition of supersession details. Amendment dated 28 February 2010 - Implementation of CEN corrigendum March 2009. Will eventually supersede BS 5400-2:1978, which will be withdrawn when Annex A.2 to BS EN 1990:2002 is published. To enable EN 1991-1-5 to be used in the UK, the NDPs will be published in a National Annex which will be made available by BSI in due course, after public consultation has taken place.
