Abstract
Provides guidance on the planning and design of in-patient facilities for adults. Describes bed and sanitary facilities, patient support spaces, storage, utilities, administration areas and staff facilities. Addresses engineering services. Essentially for new builds but applicable to existing sites.

Supersedes the 2008 edition, which replaced NHS Estates' HBN 4, 'In-patient accommodation: Options for choice'. HBN 4 is cited in the Building Regulations and is therefore still available through The Construction Information Service. Appended with Schedules of Accommodation, originally issued separately. Schedules of accommodation amended June 2010.
