Abstract
Sets out minimum recommended criteria for acoustics in the design and management of new healthcare facilities. It addresses issues such as the provision of temporary healthcare facilities, refurbishments and the control of noise and vibration during construction. Example checklists and calculations are included to assist the design process.

Published 19 March 2013. Supersedes Space for Health: Healthcare Environment 'Acoustics: Technical design manual' (2012), which replaced HBN 08-01 Specialist services - acoustics (2008). Department of Health is now known as the Department of Health and Social Care.

Its work included setting national standards, shaping the direction of health and social care services and promoting healthier living. Publications included Space for Health: Technical Manuals, as well as the Health Building Notes, Health Technical Memorandums, and White Papers. They were renamed to the Department of Health and Social Care. However responsibility for technical guidance was then transferred to NHS Improvement in February 2017 which is now part of NHS England and NHS Improvement.
