Abstract

In temperatures below 0°C the probability of frost attack on recently laid mortar is indicated, as the water expands upon freezing and cracks and disruption to the bond occur. Self-healing and resealing of cracks over time can be encouraged with the inclusion of free lime in the mix. Advises on precautions to be taken when using mortar in winter conditions.
