Abstract
Presents an international collaboration for sharing knowledge on good practice for management and design of levees. Covers levees in flood risk management, construction and design, operation and maintenance, inspection, assessment and risk attribution, emergency management and operations, site characterisation and data requirements, physical processes and tools for levee assessment and design. This chapter details the principles for site characterisation, natural actions on levees, riverine levees, coastal and shoreline levees, estuarine levees and human actions on levees. Also covers ground investigation, geotechnical parameters and site investigation methods.
