Abstract
Examines the causes, effects, risks and offers guidance on early-age thermal cracking in concrete. This phenomena happens when tensile strain is greater than the tensile strain capacity of concrete. Considers design aspects such as estimating the magnitude of crack-inducing strain, how to control the size of cracks using reinforcement and ways to minimise risk.
Document History
Superseded by C766 Control of cracking caused by restrained deformation in concrete (CIRIA, 2018). Reprinted 2014. Replaces CIRIA Report R 91, Early-age thermal crack control in concrete (revised edition), 1992. It is not possible to include the spreadsheet calculators containing worked examples which are available in an accompanying CD-ROM within The Construction Information Service. However appendices A1 - A10 are included within this pdf. Please contact the publisher directly to purchase the accompanying CD.
