Abstract
Gives a basis of understanding to the principles and importance of resource efficiency and the embodied energy of buildings. Plant and equipment used in building services use a high proportion of steel, aluminium, plastics and copper as well as rare earth elements with magnetic properties and phosphors. The guidance addresses what opportunities there could be during manufacturing, construction, maintenance and disposing of the equipment at end of life.
