Abstract
Provides advice on elements of the EIA process during pre-application, namely screening and scoping and to assist applicants in understanding the role of preliminary environmental information. Covers: environmental impact assessment (EIA); the role of preliminary environmental information; pre-application consultation; notification of the EIA consultation bodies; screening; scoping; pre-application advice from the Planning Inspectorate; requests for additional information; practical matters.

Under the Localism Act 2011, the IPC is abolished with its work being transferred to the National Infrastructure Directorate, created within the Planning Inspectorate.
