Comprises a briefing on output from a European research programme (ESPON) projects RISE (Region Integrated Strategies in Europe) and KIT (Knowledge, Innovation, Territory) specifically around partnerships at various spatial scales supporting economic growth in cities and planning of new settlements. Sets out the main findings using Birmingham and The Randstad (in the Netherlands) as examples, and includes key messages for policy and practice.
