Abstract
Provides guidance on maintaining old waterfront walls, particularly gravity walls constructed with stone masonry, brick blocks or mass concrete. Many existing waterfront structures (harbour and dock walls, breakwaters, seawalls, flood defences, skin walls, bridge piers and abutments) are crucial parts of industrial or environmental facilities. Summarises construction and reviews their performance, effective management and maintenance. Guidance is given for their inspection, structural evaluations, repair and rehabilitation. Includes 22 case studies with examples for maintenance and repair.
