Abstract
Advises on safe methods of working practice, looking at planning, personnel and traffic management issues and breakdowns and vehicle recovery. Aimed at high speed roads, but the principles can be applied to roads with lower speeds.
Document History
Superseded by GG 115 Requirements for works on the hard shoulder and road side verges on high speed dual carriageways (formerly IAN 115/08 revision 2) (HE, 2020). Interim Advice Notes (IANs) are issued by the Highways England from time to time. They contain specific Guidance, which shall only be used in connection with works on motorways and trunk roads in England, subject to any specific implementation instructions contained within an IAN. Whilst IANs must be read in conjunction with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCHW) for the above works, and may incorporate amendments or additions to documents in these manuals, they are not part of the DMRB or MCHW. Revision 02 issued October 2015.
