Abstract
The government is proposing to implement Article 8 of Directive 2014/61/EU Measures to reduce the cost of deploying high-speed electronic communications networks (the broadband cost reduction directive) through the Building Regulations, with a new Part R setting functional requirements. The directive requires all new buildings and major renovations to provide in-building physical infrastructure that will enable connection to super-fast broadband. The draft Approved Document (AD) advises on complying with requirement R1 and includes schematic diagrams for access points, ducting and network termination points for both single and multi-dwelling buildings.
