Abstract
Introduces the framework for selecting and implementing appropriate safety management system activities for use within the Highways England network.
Document History
Interim Advice Notes (IANs) are issued by the Highways Agency from time to time. They contain specific Guidance, which shall only be used in connection with works on motorways and trunk roads in England, subject to any specific implementation instructions contained within an IAN. Whilst IANs must be read in conjunction with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCHW) for the above works, and may incorporate amendments or additions to documents in these manuals, they are not part of the DMRB or MCHW. To be read in conjunction with GD 04/12 Standard for safety risk assessment on the strategic road network (HA, 2012). See also the companion document: National safety control review group and Project safety control review group. For all schemes/projects/programmes and appropriate operational activities. NSCRG and PSCRG remit for organisation and governance. Version 10.3 (HE, 2015). Supersedes IAN 139/11 Managed motorways project safety risk work instructions (HA, 2011) and IAN 151/11 Safety risk management guidance for NDDD (HA, 2011).
