Abstract
Provides design guidance for tram operated fixed rail systems to meet the Secured by Design standards. Well designed tram stops should create safer environments for passengers and help to reduce crime and the fear of crime or anti-social behaviour. Covers responsibilities for the design team as well as management practice and operation, design issues, parking facilities, boundaries and perimeters, signage, lighting and surveillance.

The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) existed until 31 March 2015, as an independent professional body coordinating the development of the police service in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The ACPO formed the Crime Prevention Initiatives to manage projects such as Secured by Design, which was established in 1989 and focussed on providing design guidance and security for new and refurbished homes, commercial premises and car parks.
