Abstract
Investigates the structural timber properties of noble fir, Norway spruce, western red cedar and western hemlock grown in Great Britain. Compares the results with published values for British-grown Sitka spruce. This is the main species used in the softwood processing sector, but has recently been the subject of host-specific tree pests and diseases leading to this research on diversifying to mitigate risk to the softwood resource.
