Abstract
Emphasises the requirements introduced by HE IAN 161/15 relating to changes to access cover locations and how it should be applied. Also provides supplementary guidance in the form of a decision support tree covering existing chambers in the carriageway.
Document History
Superseded by CD 534 Chamber tops and gully tops for road drainage and services (formerly HA 104/09, IAN 196/17, IAN 197/17) (HE, 2020). Interim Advice Notes (IANs) are issued by Highways England from time to time. They contain specific Guidance, which shall only be used in connection with works on motorways and trunk roads in England, subject to any specific implementation instructions contained within an IAN. Whilst IANs must be read in conjunction with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCHW) for the above works, and may incorporate amendments or additions to documents in these manuals, they are not part of the DMRB or MCHW.
