Abstract
Presents general guidance on good practice in the preparation of landscape and visual impact assessments. Looks at common defining characteristics that underlie the approach to landscape and visual impact assessments. Explains the role of landscape assessments within the process of sound landscape planning. Discusses the principles and processes involved, looking at the assessment process in relation to the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) framework. Considers the effects that a proposed development may have in terms of landscape and visual effects and looks at how these effects may be mitigated. Also highlights the types of cumulative landscape and visual effects that may occur, explaining what they are and how they may be mitigated. Also includes guidance on how to produce a landscape and visual impact report.
