Abstract
Issued as part of a government consultation presenting possible solutions to reduce congestion caused during street and road works. 2 existing schemes in London and Kent are due to end in March 2019, unless regulations are changed. 4 options are explored: no new schemes are permitted (do nothing option), removing the sunset clause and keeping the lane rental regime as it is for London and Kent (option 1), extend the lane rental scheme to other local authorities, with certain conditions to be met (option 2) and the final option 3 would be to use permit schemes to meet lane rental objectives.
