Abstract

Explores a method for determining the required steel sub-grade allowable in BS EN 1993-1-10 using fracture mechanics. The method can be used on quasi-static structures, when fatigue is not a design consideration. Covers: brittle fracture, development of Eurocode guidance, quasi-static structures guidance, UK National Annex provisions and implementation. Numerical examples are provided.
