Abstract
Relates the risk of fire to heritage buildings and discusses the extent of the problem. Explores the risks of fire in historic covered markets and piers, highlighting examples where upgraded sprinkler systems have proven their worth. Looks at the standards covering different types of fire suppression systems. Discusses the requirements for heritage buildings, system design and installation and provides a list of those buildings fitted with full or partial automatic fire suppression systems (AFSS).
