Abstract
Presents the final findings of the Independent review led by Dame Judith Hackitt, commissioned by government following the Grenfell Tower fire in June 2017. The scope of the review encompassed the building and fire safety regulatory system for high-rise residential buildings. It reiterates that it is not presently fit-for-purpose and discusses the parameters and principles of a new regulatory framework. Also looks at: design, construction and refurbishment; occupation and maintenance; residents' voice; competence; guidance and monitoring to support building safety; products; building information; procurement and supply. Provides international examples which cover prescriptive frameworks, outcomes-based frameworks and industry involvement for a successful culture change.
