Abstract

Provides an update from the Government in response to Dame Judith Hackitt's final report of the independent review of building regulations and fire safety. The letter discusses ways to ensure there is decisive action taken by those responsible for building safety and establishing an effective regulatory framework. There are indications for further consultations needed on: a) banning or restricting desktop studies; b) clarifying the statutory guidance offered in Approved Document B (Fire safety); and c) banning the use of combustible materials in cladding systems on high-rise residential buildings. The letter also looks at remediation of ACM clad buildings, including funding for the removal and replacement work in high rise residential properties that are council and housing associations owned, and clarification for the private sector that it is up to building owners and developers to take on responsibility and costs, and without pass this on to their leaseholders. Finally, the investigations into the failed fire door are continuing with further testing of door suppliers.
