Abstract
Gives information for the use of ground granulated blastfurnace slag (ggbs) - a latent hydraulic material with inherent cementitious properties which need to be activated, usually by combining with Portland cement. Also gives information for fly ash - a pozzolana - not usually cementitious unless combined with high alkaline material. Covers production, reaction mechanism, use, specification and efflorescence.
