Abstract
Relates to design requirements for stiffened and unstiffened plates which are subject to in-plane forces, also covering plated structural elements and plated components. Details the basis of design, shear lag in member design, plate buckling effects, resistance to shear and to patch loading, interactions, stiffeners and detailing, reduced stress method, plate girders with corrugated webs and includes calculation for critical stresses.
Document History
This document is considered to be a second generation Eurocode and can be used to prepare for the transition from first to second generation of Eurocodes. The first generation Eurocode should be used as the applicable standard for building and civil engineering works constructed in the UK. First generation Eurocodes will be withdrawn by BSI on 30 March 2028 and will be replaced by second generation Eurocodes. Supersedes BS EN 1993-1-5:2006+A2:2019. The National Annex contains national choices for buildings and civil engineering works constructed in the UK.
