Abstract
This article explores the corrosion-resistant properties of stainless steels, emphasizing their suitability for long-lasting, low-maintenance applications such as bridges. The article highlights the use of duplex stainless steels for structural components in bridges due to their superior strength and corrosion resistance, while austenitic stainless steels are preferred for non-structural components. An example is provided with the use of duplex stainless steel grade 1.4462 in the construction of the Garrison Crossing bridges in Toronto.
