Abstract

This publication addresses the calculation of bolt bearing resistance in EN 1993‐1‐8, which currently accounts for both perpendicular and parallel dimensions to the applied force, whereas prEN 1993‐1‐8 focuses only on dimensions parallel to the force. It also highlights the importance of adhering to minimum edge, end, and spacing distances, with a reduction factor introduced when bearing deformations must be limited, and the UK National Annex recommending a higher partial safety factor to minimize deformation.
