Abstract
Gives general details of test conditions, specimens, apparatus and criteria for fire resistance testing. Appendices provide general guidance information, method for residual loadbearing capacity and operating instructions.

Superseded by BS EN 1363-1:2020 and BS EN 1363-2:1999 but remains current until 2 September 2029. Supersedes BS 476-8:1972. Amendment 6487 dated April 1990 - Indicated by a sideline in the margin. Amendment C1 dated April 2014 - Information added to Foreword. Amendment C2 dated December 2024 - Supersession updated in Foreword. This standard has been superseded by the current BS EN 1363-1 and BS EN 1363-2, but it has been retained based on legitimate need for the standards within non-EU markets. Confirmed March 2021.
