Abstract
Relates to Pocket House in East Dulwich, south London, the debut built project by Tikari Works, where the practice acted as client, architect, and main contractor. Built on the site of a former garage, the compact home spans three levels, featuring an ‘upside-down’ layout with bedrooms in a sunken courtyard basement and living spaces above. The design emphasizes a raw, handcrafted aesthetic, avoiding traditional finishes in favour of rich materials and natural light interplay. Externally, a timber screen integrates the structure with its surroundings, balancing privacy, daylight, and local planning constraints while drawing inspiration from traditional garden sheds and garages.
