Abstract

Describes a bespoke kitchen design by From Works for a Sheffield family home, inspired by a moss-covered rock and the materiality of the Peak District. The design integrates locally sourced materials, including solid-edged stained birch plywood, steamed beech, and fossil limestone from a Derbyshire quarry. A stainless steel and stained plywood breakfast table complements the scheme, while an experimental staining process refined the plywood’s texture and durability. Close collaboration with local fabricators and material suppliers ensured careful selection of stone slabs and finishes, creating a harmonious connection between the kitchen, garden, and existing home interior.
