Abstract
Describes the Wildernesse Restaurant pavilion at Pegasus Life’s Wildernesse Estate in Sevenoaks, Kent, designed as a social hub for the retirement community and a contemporary counterpoint to the Grade II-listed estate. Constructed with a timber superstructure featuring a vaulted ceiling grid, the pavilion integrates flush thresholds and large windows, fostering a shared connection with the landscape. A layered façade of stained timber and intricate metal cladding references the estate’s historic windows, while a masonry plinth grounds the structure. The exposed timber interior enhances warmth and tactility, with 48 tonnes of embodied carbon sequestered, reinforcing the project’s sustainability and craftsmanship.
