Covers: using the LCRM guides; overview of LCRM; who should use LCRM; competent person; National Quality Mark Scheme; gas protection verification accreditation scheme; sustainability; defining the term 'land contamination'; causes of land contamination; dealing with new pollution to soil and groundwater; remedial works for permitted activities and pollution incidents; manage historic contamination; quality of information and degree of confidence; uncertainties and limitations; communicate the risk; British Standards and other guidance that can be used.

Clarified that rapid measurement techniques (RMT) can be used for all stages of LCRM where an intrusive investigation is required provided the requirements of the RMT protocol and MCERTS are met.
