Abstract
The principle factors which cause deterioration of reinforcement are described. Detailed guidance on diagnosis of the cause of corrosion and on inspection and testing is given. The general principles of concrete repair, the stages in the repair process, operation factors and choice of methods are discussed. Guidance is given on the main systems currently used: recasting, sprayed concrete and mortar, hand-applied plain and polymer-modified cementitious mortars; repair of cracks; coatings. Aspects of the conditions of contract, specification and measurement are discussed.
