Abstract
Follows the first phase of a proposed two-stage study by CIRIA to produce an authoritative guide on waterproofing and repairing underground reservoirs constructed brickwork, mass concrete or reinforced concrete, or a combination of these materials which may be in need of repair and/or waterproofing. Practical and authoritative guidance with clear identification of areas of uncertainty is presented on all relevant aspects of waterproofing and concrete repair, to roofs and walls above water storage levels including: i. Identification and characterisation of defects, including leakage through roofs and the reasons for conducting an investigation, definition of reservoir construction groups and drainage provisions. ii. Investigation and testing methods. iii. Methods of repair and performance requirements, including material requirements. iv. Defects which may arise as a result of the repair. v. Waterproofing and repairing reservoir walls. vi. Selection and the method of repair, including durability, maintenance and cost considerations. vii. Quality assurance, during the investigation and design, for materials selection, during the repair and a scheme for contractors.
