Abstract
The principles of metallic corrosion are described and the different techniques of preparing substrates explained. Prior to paining, metallic coatings are often used, and the methods of application are outlined. Paint types and constituents are described, together with a discussion on selection of particular systems. The methods of paint application and quality/inspection testing are assessed. Methods by which the economics of protecting steelwork against corrosion by painting can be assessed are given.
