Abstract
Deals with external insulation systems installed on existing vertical walls made of brick, stone or concrete and forming separate, additional structural elements: composed of expanded polystyrene foam insulation fixed to the wall, with either adhesive and/or mechanical fixings, and faced with a thin, reinforced rendering, the whole system being given a finishing coat; including specific fittings to connect them to adjacent structures (apertures, corners, acroteria etc); designed to impart additional thermal insulation and improved appearance to the wall on which they are installed, and sometimes contributing to its watertightness and protection against natural agents; capable of being used on new or existing walls (refurbishment); not contributing under any circumstances to the stability of the wall on which they are installed; and having a mean thermal resistance in excess of 1m²K/W at the maximum thickness of insulation prescribed by the manufacturer.
