These recommendations apply to the installation, operation and maintenance of cooking appliances generally but with an emphasis on the hazards of the use of fats and cooking oils.

Formed from a merger of the Fire Offices Committee, the Fire Insurers Research and Testing Organisation and the Insurers Technical Bureau in 1984, the Loss Prevention Council (LPC) later went on to develop a certification body, the Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB), itself taken over by BRE Certification in April 2000. Other LPC documents are now available from the Fire Protection Association.
