Abstract
Reviews information on the vibration of structures, and its effect on the occupants as well as on damage to the buildings. The natural periods of buildings and of structural elements, and the damping of structures and their constituent materials are considered. Many examples are given of actual measurements made in relation to structural damage or annoyance to people, and special problems such as the effects of sonic booms are discussed.
