Abstract
The published literature on carbonation and its effects is extensive and in consequence a literature review was initiated. The scope of the review includes a brief description of what is known of carbonation from laboratory studies performed under controlled conditions, a compilation and assessment of field data on carbonation, reports of carbonation-induced damage in reinforced concrete and conclusions regarding our present understanding and future research needs.
