Abstract
The use of polymers in mortar and concrete mixes produces similar materials to conventional ordinary Portland cement-bound concretes. All or part of the cement content is replaced by polymers - synthetic resins of high molecular weight. The polymer imposes the characteristics of the concrete, most notably its mechanical properties and chemical resistance. Polymers have been in use for over 25 years, but it is only in the last decade that they have become of commercial significance. This Technical Report provides a review of the types of polymer and the methods of using them in concrete.
