Abstract
Masterplanning of Dyfi Eco Park, a business park on the outskirts of Machynlleth, Wales, to provide green buildings for office and light industrial use. Low-toxicity ground contamination was dealt with by on-site containment, while careful planting and minimal hard landscaping reduced the need for artificial drainage. Natural daylight, natural ventilation and passive solar gain were maximised; a thermographic survey indicated that the building has no area of unacceptable heat loss. Locally sourced materials have a low embodied energy and reduce health risks; the higher cost of green components was offset by cost savings elsewhere. Working details of external wall, roof and rooflight. Cost analysis. Architects: Peter Holden Architects.
