Abstract
Intended to remind and inform designers and site supervisory staff of ways of avoiding some of the most troublesome defects which have beset Local Authority housing. This Defect Action Sheet covers wood windows and door frames: care on site during storage and installation. Failures discussed include wet rot following early failure of paint system letting water into unprotected wood. Defects discussed include inadequate protection on site before and after installation; poor preparation prior to installation and painting.
