Abstract
Intended to remind and inform designers and site supervisory staff of ways of avoiding some of the most troublesome defects which have beset Local Authority housing. This Defect Action Sheet covers cold water storage systems: overflow pipes. Failures discussed include collapse of ceiling; wetting - with permanent loss of strength - of chipboard floors; and damage to wiring, decorations, furnishings etc. Defects discussed include overflow/warning pipe of inadequate bore, sagging or with insufficient slope, not protected against freezing.
