Abstract
Retail warehouses are designed to provide an acceptable shopping environment within a basic industrial shed type of building. An investigation of the scope for improvements in energy efficiency is described. Current practice was examined for five major operators through interviews and store visits. Opportunities for energy efficient design and retrofit were assessed in relation to cost savings and environmental benefits.
