Abstract
The term fibreboards covers a range of materials manufactured from ligno-cellulosic fibres by the application of heat and pressure. Boards are manufactured by a wet or dry process, the wet process boards being further sub-divided on the basis of their density. Thus wet process boards include: Softboards - density less than 400 Kilograms per cubic metre. Low density medium boards - density more than 400; less than 560 Kilograms per cubic metre. High density medium boards - density more than 560; less than 900 Kilograms per cubic metre. Hardboards - density 900 Kilograms per cubic metre or more. Dry process boards are: Medium density fibreboard - density 450 Kilograms per cubic metre or more. This Wood Information Sheet acts as a pointer to the changes which will take place over the next year or two, by indicating the current British Standards which relate to fibreboards and the European Standards which will take their place.
