Abstract
Details are given for the citation, coming into effect and interpretation of the regulations. Guidance is given on who is excluded from the regulations. Definition is given to the meaning of confined space and specific hazards are detailed. The duties and the responsibilities of employers are given. Subjects covered include the risk assessment, the need to prevent entry, methods for safe working in confined spaces and emergency procedures. Guidance is also given on plant equipment and training.

This ACOP has special legal status whereby if you are prosecuted for breach of health and safety law, and it is proved you did not follow the Code procedures, you will need to show other ways in which you have complied with the law or the courts will find you at fault.
