Abstract
Alkali silica reaction is a chemical reaction between pore solutions and aggregates used for concrete. The reaction product, can in certain circumstances absorb water and swell, causing expansion and cracking. This has rarely posed a threat but there are concerns that this could lead to other, more serious, problems.
